Torre seeks to give residents a great voice on the Select Board

BILLERICA – Darlene Torre announced her candidacy for the Billerica Select Board today.  Darlene Torre who, currently serves as a member the School Committee and various other committees in town, will resign her School Committee seat on April 1st.

“Last year at this time, I worked to engage our community in a conversation about a vision for responsible growth for the future of Billerica.  Since that time, we have seen the Billerica Mall receive permission to build 200 units of dense housing, the approval of additional dense housing zoning, and continued advocacy from many elected officials to build more dense housing,” said Torre.  “I am renewing my commitment through this campaign to work to stop dense housing from ruining our community and to be a leader that ensures that residents and neighborhoods have their voices heard in town hall.”

Torre continued, “I’m so proud of the work I’ve done to serve parents and students as a member of the School Committee.  The time is now however, to take on an expanded scope and serve our town as a whole.  I will ensure Covid-19 recovery funds are spent appropriately and as intended to aid families, seniors, veterans, and municipal employees.  I will give the residents something they greatly deserve – a friend on the Select Board who will ensure residents are truly heard,” said Torre.  “To ensure our students and parents have the representation they deserve on the School Committee, and to demonstrate my commitment to serving as a member of the Select Board, I will step down from the School Committee on April 1st so that the committee seat can be filled during the election cycle” Torre concluded.

Darlene brings with her an impressive resume of experience in Billerica including five years on the Billerica School Committee, being a member of the Billerica Substance Abuse Prevention Committee, Scholarship Committee, and the Health & Wellness Advisory Committee.  She has also served on the School Budget Sub Committee, Yankee Doodle Committee, and as a town meeting member. Darlene also serves on the VFW Solomon Post Auxiliary & fundraising committee, is a volunteer at the Billerica Community Food Market and for Wreaths Across America.

“I’m running because Billerica needs a friend on the Select Board.  I will focus economic prosperity through retail, commercial, and restaurant developments.  I will hold the line on property taxes and water and sewer fees.  I will refocus our investments in town on improved roads and sidewalks.  I will support our law enforcement officers and public safety officials. I will bring a new sense of teamwork and collaboration to the Board which has been missing for the last decade,” said Torre.  “Being active in so many groups in town, I know I can represent the great residents of Billerica well.  I’ll be a Select Board member who you can depend on being involved in our community.”

Municipal elections are on Saturday April 2nd.

Always there when people are in need in our community.
