DARLENE TORRE, A FRIEND TO BILLERICA, ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR SELECT BOARD
Torre seeks to be the second women on The Billerica Select Board
BILLERICA – Darlene Torre announced her candidacy for the Billerica Select Board today. Darlene Torre currently serves as a member the School Committee, Town Meeting, and various other committees in town.
“As I watch more dense housing projects that are proposed, as I watch a lack of retail and restaurant developments, and as water bills get larger and larger, I’ve never been more convinced that residents need a friend on the Select Board. I will be a strong advocate for families, seniors and veterans in Billerica and help our residents as we navigate the challenges that Covid-19 presents” said Torre.
Darlene Torre is currently the Vice Chair of the Billerica School Committee, where she has served for four years. She is the loving mother of Angela and proud stepmother of Alex who is a veteran of the United States Army. Darlene is also the guardian of her wonderful niece Gyanna, who is a Locke School student. Torre is the Chief Financial Officer for Security Courier Corp. Revere, MA.
Darlene will seek to be the second women serving on the Board. She brings with her an impressive resume of experience in Billerica including serving as a member on the Billerica Substance Abuse Prevention Committee, Scholarship Committee and the Health & Wellness Advisory Committee. She has also served on the School Budget Sub Committee, Yankee Doodle Committee and is a volunteer at the Billerica Community Food Market, serves on the VFW Solomon Post fundraising committee, and is a volunteer for Wreaths Across America.
“I’m running because Billerica is at a crossroads. We can no longer have members of the Select Board encourage dense housing projects that will ruin Billerica neighborhoods. We can no longer have Select Board members who raise water and sewer rates just because they can. We need to hold the line on taxes and keep property taxes under control for hard working families and seniors in our community. We need better roads and sidewalks. We must back the blue in Billerica. I commit to being a voice for these important issues and I will bring a new sense of teamwork and collaboration to the Board which has been missing for the last decade” said Torre. “Being active in so many groups in town, I know I can represent the great residents of Billerica well. I’ll be a Select Board member who you can depend on being involved in our community.”
Municipal elections are scheduled for the first Saturday in April.
Always there when people are in need in our community.
